Frostburg State University and Allegany College of Maryland both offer credit courses for degree-seeking workers.

Besides our local higher learning institutions, the county is adjacent to other colleges and universities, such as West Virginia University Potomac State Campus. West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown are also both within an hour's drive from Allegany County.

The Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development at ACM offers courses ranging from the culinary arts to advanced factory technicians. Programs place an emphasis on real world training, and employers actively engage faculty to develop programs that help fit their needs.

Western Maryland IT Center of Excellence

The IT Center is self contained within the ACM ecosystem, manages a number of programs, including P-Tech, Girls Who Code, and certifications in cybersecurity, data and information technology.

The Western Maryland Works Makerspace is owned by Allegany County and managed by Allegany College of Maryland. There, learners starting as young as high school can train on the advanced equipment that powers the factories of the future.
