ABC@FSU is supported by a growing regional capability within the higher education infrastructure including the growing science and technology programs at Frostburg State University. FSU is part of the University of Maryland System and has access to the wide range of resources of one of the nation’s leading higher education institution.
Another major component of the educational infrastructure is Allegany College of Maryland where students can achieve various levels of educational capabilities, both credit and non-credit, in biotechnology and computer science. Allegany College also offers an unlimited capability to provide customized work force training for individual companies and is linked to all of the community colleges throughout the State of Maryland.

Key Curricula
Frostburg State University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a comprehensive liberal arts university offering a wide array of undergraduate and graduate programs. Science and technology-related businesses can take advantage of the solid infrastructure created by its comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs.
The University participates in a variety of innovative partnerships with the economic development and business communities and offers key curricula in Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Engineering and Business Administration.
On-Site Resources
Frostburg State University Biotechnology Training Center – a state-of-the-art laboratory designed to provide a center for biotechnology education and training in western Maryland.
University of Maryland Center For Environmental Science – The Appalachian Laboratory is an environmental research facility of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. FSU collaborates with the Laboratory facility in both research and teaching.
University of Maryland System and Distance Learning – FSU has collaborative academic programs with other institutions in the University System of Maryland, including Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
Center for Regional Progress – Serves as a clearinghouse for economic ideas, statistics, data and services for 11 counties in western Maryland, northern West Virginia and southwestern/central Pennsylvania.

Key Curricula
Allegany College of Maryland is a fully accredited two-year college that provides a unique mix of transfer programs, two-year and one-year certificate programs, as well as custom designed training for business and industry.
In addition to a variety of innovative partnerships with the economic development community and the business community, Allegany College offers key curricula in Biology, Computer Science, Allied Health and Engineering.
Continuing Education and Customized Business Training
The Institute for Business and Industry provides employee training programs for local and regional companies. Audiences range from new entry-level hire and experienced workers to middle management and senior management professionals. The Business & Industry Training Group works closely with each customer to guarantee quality and service in the design and delivery of each training program. Whether short- or long-term, programs are custom designed for a company’s specific needs.
Distance Learning
Through advanced telecommunications technology, Allegany College is making higher education far more accessible to tri-state area residents by enabling them to pursue degrees and course work unavailable locally.
Located conveniently near corporate and manufacturing sites in Allegany County, the college makes its Distance Learning Lab available for private business uses including teleconferences, internal business meetings and training.
Land Development Cooperation
Allegany College is located on a prime site just off I-68 on Willowbrook Road that is ideal for a campus-like environment. The college has a history of cooperative land development in the interest of the community.
The Allegany College Board of Trustees has played an important role in local economic land development agreements to allow the development of the Kelly-Springfield Corporate Headquarters in 1987 and the Keystone Financial KeyCall Center is 1990, both on outlying parcels of the campus.
Affiliations With Other Four Year Schools and Programs
University Studies transfer programs are designed for students whose goal is to transfer to a four-year college or university after attending Allegany College. The college has developed specialized programs that permit students to take only those courses that the four-year college or university requires while earning an associate degree.
